Donor Hero: Gary Howard

by Wendy Kay

My brother came to live with my kids & I when my husband passed away suddenly aged 39 in 1998. He selflessly gave me and my young kids a safe, very funny and stable life, and I was lucky to have him look after my family when I had open heart surgery in 2008. He loved lawn bowls and having a beer with his mates, even bringing home meat and veggie trays after spending too much time and money on raffles.

Gary suffered a catastrophic stroke which the surgeons thought he would recover from but alas he passed away, leaving the biggest hole in our family.

He truly was a special man and Donor Hero.
